Furthermore, this issue expands beyond just foreign influence. It also encompasses the requirements for our critical infrastructure, as established by Presidential Policy Directive 21 (PPD-21). President Barack Obama signed this Executive Order in 2013, underscoring the need to shield our critical infrastructure, including our election systems, from potential cybersecurity threats. It promotes collaboration and information exchange between the government and private sector to fortify our critical systems’ security and resilience.
Yet, a revealing report from the highly-regarded National Academy of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine has unveiled considerable gaps in federal oversight and a lack of uniform election technology protocols.
